  • Digital storytelling: Participants use their voice together with audio visual resources (photographs, video footage, text, music and sound) to produce a story that can be used for a variety of purposes including learning resources, reports, assessments and personal reflections. It can be utilized by employees to promote a product or a service.

E-Facilitation

This program is designed for the trainer who will facilitate training programs in an e-learning setting. This course addresses facilitating in synchronous and asynchronous learning situations that are delivered over the World Wide Web.

The course will run over a 6-10 week period (depending upon the commitment and expertise of the learners) and it is anticipated that learners will commit 3 hours a week to the course. One hour of this will be in a synchronous discussion with the facilitator and other learners in either Skype or Discovere. The other two hours will be either in research or discussion in the learning management system (Moodle).

It is presumed that course participants have their own technical support and have a teaching/training background. Potential participants should confirm with their IT departments that they are able to download and use Skype and Discovere. (If this is not possible you need to discuss this with Skills Strategies staff)

It is preferable that learners complete the course in groups from one organization. The minimum number of participants required to run the course is 8. Individuals are encouraged to register for the course and when a group of 8 is achieved the course will commence.

Take Your Small RTO Online

Some of the issues facing small RTO's include attracting large enough class sizes to make delivery cost effective, the requirement for a market edge including customised and individualised delivery options, the perception of high cost to implement e-learning strategies and the costs associated with implementing and maintaining compliance.

RTO's usually may consider the use of e-learning as purely a delivery mechanism for learning to students that gives them the ability to deliver individualised solutions for small numbers cost effectively, but it can also be used to support organisational issues such as standards.

The new standards due for operation in July 2007 require that RTO's:

  • Provide quality training and assessment across all of its operations
  • That the RTO adheres to the principles of access and equity and maximises outcomes for its clients
  • Management systems are responsive to the needs of clients, staff and stakeholders, and the environment in which the RTO operates
  • Essential standards of registration are met eg Governance, interactions with registering body, compliance with legislation, insurance, financial management, certification and qualifications, recognition by other RTO's, accuracy and integrity of marketing, transition to Training Packages

E-learning can not only facilitate the access to a broader market and facilitate the delivery to small classes; it can also enhance the small RTO's compliance with standards.

Various tools are cheaply available to support the delivery of e-learning by small RTO's.
